Context: Saloum, Jean-Luc Herbulot's new film

Jean-Luc Herbulot, a Franco-Congolese director and screenwriter, has released his third feature film, Saloum. This thriller takes us to Senegal to follow the story of a trio of mercenaries whose mission seems compromised, forcing them into hiding in the mystical Saloum region.

LACME Production needed special effects, so it called on our VFX department.

Project: VFX production

The feature film Saloum required numerous special effects (VFX )in different parts of the film. We produced the modelling, texturing and 3D animation of two vehicles: the plane and the helicopter. We also addedeffects to the vehicles, 3D simulations andimprovements to existingelements.

So we made an identical 3D reproduction of the aircraft used on the shoot for the ground shots. To integrate the aircraft we carried out :
- Removing and replacing the aircraft and its shadow on an existing plan,
- Matchmoving the aircraft so that its movements could be reproduced identically and transferred to its 3D model, matchmoving the aircraft so that its movements can be reproduced identically on its 3D model,
- Adding a hole on the wing of the aircraft and a fuel leak, as well as adding cloud layers to accentuate the effect of flight.

We integrated the helicopter in 3D and added heat effects.

Other special effects were also necessary:
- Creating a specific 3D simulation to recreate and make credible the bullet holes in one of the shots in the film,
- The addition of muzzle flashes and smoke during the shooting,
- The rig removal of certain extras and/or the technical crew,
- The addition of the sun and the moon,
- The improvement of the makeup by adding an additional and identical scar on one hand, as well as the retouching of a burnt and scarred ear.

Saloum is currently being presented at a number of festivals.
